SUBJECT: Report Proposal
After viewing focus group results from the proximity video teams, I found that Gen-Y is moving more away from traditional TV broadcasts and more into catching their favorite shows online. I propose to write a report on how Gen-Y is preferring to watch their video content on their internet rather than on the television.
Needs Statement
This report will take a deeper look at how Gen-Y is switching to getting their content from the television to the internet. It will also take at how Gen-Y is watching their videos online and what programs they prefer online.
Clients of proximity need this report to see how sites like these are changing the entire video market.
Topics
The proposed report, "Gen-Y's switch to online", will include the following topics:
- What popular online video sites do Gen-Y prefer
- Why do they prefer online over television
- What, if any, do they prefer to see on the television
- Reasons online is the choice
Sources
Here are some important sources that I will be using for the report.
Pew Internet & American Life Project. Retrieved April 10 from: http://www.marketingcharts.com/interactive/six-of-10-online-adults-watch-online-video-most-prefer-professional-quality-1112/
In this excellent report done by Pew, they go through all of the statistics on who is watching online content, who prefers it over normal television, and a number of other statistics. In the article, Pew reports "for young adults, comedy is a big draw, with 56% watching humorous videos".
Greeson, Michael. "Online video viewers are..". Retrieved April 10 from: http://www.reelseo.com/online-video-viewers-rich-young-earlyadopting-whippersnappers/
Very interesting research done by Greeson in which he finds that over a third of online viewers are young (18-32). Greeson also makes an interesting find in that "14% of online viewers.... make over $100, 000 a year.
Hulu. About. Retrieved April 10 from: http://www.hulu.com/about
Useful source because it gives all the information on Hulu, which is one of the more popular video-streaming sites online. They describe their sites as bringing "together a large selection of videos from over 200 leading content companies".
